Life is Good Pumpkin Festival
BOSTON COMMON, BOSTON, MA :: We were in Boston Common this evening to enjoy the second annual Life is Good Pumpkin Festival. The event is a fundraiser for Camp Sunshine, a program to allow kids with life-threatening illnesses to attend a weeklong camp with their families. In order to bring attention to the event, thousands of jack-o’-lanterns were carved and lit in an attempt to break a world record held by Keene, NH since 2003. The much smaller population of Keene was able to simultaneously light 28,952 pumpkins. Quite a feat!
As the official count was updated and announced throughout the night, the suspense grew greater and the park became more beautiful with each new row of freshly carved and twinkling pumpkins. We saw people arriving from the subway with their jack-o’-lanterns in hand, eager to contribute. Were they able to do it?
Kristie and I were happy to celebrate with Boston as they announced a new world record of 30,952 pumpkins! It was an amazing sight!

Wonderful pictures John. The motion blur is amazing. Did you and Kristie acutally carve your own pumpkins, or was the I”heart”JB just a random finding?
I wish I could say I carved the I “heart” JB jack-o-lantern, but it was a lucky finding. I turned the pumpkin so the other part wouldn’t show much. :)Kristie
That’s good, ’cause I threw up a bit in my mouth when I first saw that pumpkin. 😉
Pumpkins always bring me an incredible feeling of joy – I think about how some people never lose that “Christmas morning” feeling but for me I always get it when seeing a field full of bright orange pumpkins in the fall.
I loved the pictures!
