New York, New York
NEW YORK CITY, NY :: Lucky me, I was able to extend a business trip to visit The Big Apple for the very first time! I only had a couple days, so I studied my travel guides during my flight and carefully selected what I would be able to see and do. From JFK airport to Manhattan, it’s a long subway ride, where I got a preview of NYC’s diversity and vibrancy. People of all backgrounds, all incomes, and all nations packed into a relatively small space, living large, loud and fast.
From the subway station, I walked over to The Big Apple Hostel, which is just a couple blocks from the bright lights of Times Square. I had my own room and bath, and the price and location couldn’t be beat. I highly recommend it if you don’t plan on spending much time in your hotel room and want to save some bucks.
From the hostel, I strapped on my camera bag and immediately began my adventure, walking miles of sidewalk, as far as my legs could take me. The following photos are in the approximate order I took them. I also spent a lot of time getting lost in Central Park and exploring the exhibits at the American Museum of Natural History, each of which deserve their own entry.
I only got a small taste of The Big Apple, but I found it to be suprisingly clean, beautiful, and constantly buzzing with activity, with much to appreciate in its history and diversity. I had a great time and would love to go back again with Kristie, perhaps in Autumn when the leaves are changing, or in December when the city is decked out for the holidays.

Looks like you had a great time!Nice Subway picture, lucky no cops came up to you. Not sure if you have been hearing about the photo harrasement cops have been giving photographers around the Subway and bridge sections. Some over reaction to terroism.
I was lucky enough last time to score some free tickets to the Lederman show, just persuing through Times Square. Fun experience to see live.
Can’t wait to see more pictures of your trip.
It was a great time and I can’t wait to go back! Perhaps with better weather, though. It rained two inches the first day I was there.
I was taking photos of everything without any harassment. Around Rockefeller Center, however, there were a couple dozen cops patrolling in body armor with M16s at the ready. They were watching over a stage being constructed just behind the statue of Prometheus. I was tempted to take a few photos of the cops brandishing their fully-automatic assault rifles, but I didn’t want to push it.
