Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 14, 2026
John & Kristie is a personal blog at johnandkristie.com, operated by John and Kristie from Washington, United States. This policy explains how information is handled when you browse our stories, view media, leave comments, or contact us. For privacy questions or requests, email john@johnandkristie.com.
Information you provide
When you leave a comment, WordPress collects the information entered in the comment form, such as your name, email address, optional website, and comment, together with your IP address and browser information for moderation and spam detection. Your approved comment, display name, website link, and any associated avatar may be public. Your email address is not displayed with your comment. Avoid posting private information about yourself or others.
If you email us, we receive your email address, message, and any attachments. We use this information to respond and handle your inquiry.
Analytics and technical information
We use Burst Statistics, hosted within our WordPress installation, to understand how the blog is used. It records information such as pages viewed, referring websites, visit times, and browser and device characteristics. Our current setting is “Cookieless fingerprint”: it does not store a Burst tracking cookie, but uses browser and device information to recognize returning devices. Cookieless does not mean that no information is processed. See Burst’s explanation of its data handling.
Our hosting, content delivery, and security services, including Hostinger and Sucuri, may process technical request information such as IP addresses, requested URLs, timestamps, and browser information to deliver pages, maintain logs, prevent abuse, and secure the site.
Cookies and browser storage
WordPress uses cookies for login, authentication, and administrative preferences. If the comment form offers an option to remember your details and you select it, WordPress can save your name, email address, and website in cookies for future comments. Site features may also use browser storage to remember display preferences. Previously saved consent preferences may remain in your browser until they expire or you remove them.
You can manage cookies and site storage in your browser. Blocking them may affect login, remembered preferences, or third-party media. This policy is a disclosure; it does not itself provide consent for optional tracking.
Comments, spam prevention, and avatars
Comments may be processed by Akismet, an Automattic service, to detect spam. Information sent for this purpose can include the comment, contact details supplied with it, IP address, and browser information. A hash derived from your email address may be sent to Gravatar to display an associated avatar. Loading an avatar can also send a request to its provider. See Automattic’s Privacy Policy.
Videos, maps, and external links
Our galleries can open YouTube videos. When a YouTube player loads or you interact with it, Google may receive technical information and use cookies or similar technologies under its own policies, particularly if you are signed into Google. See Google’s Privacy Policy.
The Post Map uses MapTiler map tiles with OpenStreetMap attribution. Loading the map sends requests to MapTiler, which can receive your IP address and request information. See MapTiler’s Privacy Policy. Map markers describe places in our posts; they are not a record of your location.
Links to Instagram, YouTube, and other websites take you to services with their own privacy practices. We do not control those services.
How information is used and shared
We use information to publish and moderate discussions, respond to inquiries, understand site use, maintain the blog, and protect it against spam and abuse. Information may be processed by the service providers described above, and disclosed when required by law or reasonably necessary to protect rights and security. Comments and other material you submit for public display may be visible worldwide and indexed by search engines.
Retention and security
Comments and their metadata may be retained indefinitely as part of the blog’s discussion history unless removed. Correspondence, analytics, security logs, and backups are retained according to their purpose and the applicable service settings. Deleted information may remain in backups until those backups expire. We use reasonable safeguards, but no website or transmission method is completely secure.
Your choices and requests
Contact john@johnandkristie.com to ask about information relating to you, request a correction, or request an export or deletion of information we hold. Depending on applicable law, you may also have rights to object to or restrict processing, withdraw consent where processing relies on it, or complain to a privacy regulator. We may need to verify your identity. Some records may need to be kept for legal, administrative, or security reasons, and we cannot remove copies held independently by search engines or other websites.
International visitors and children
The site is operated from the United States. Our service providers may process information in other countries, where privacy laws differ. The blog is intended for a general audience. Please do not submit personal information about children without appropriate authority. Contact us if you believe a child has submitted personal information that should be removed.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy as the site or its services change. The date above identifies the latest revision. Questions can be sent to John and Kristie at john@johnandkristie.com. See also our Terms and Conditions.
