Central Park
CENTRAL PARK, NEW YORK CITY, NY :: I really enjoyed my walks through Central Park, even though it rained the entire time and I didn’t have any idea where I was going. More than once, I tried crossing the park, and each time I ended up back where I began. I had no problem finding my way through the streets of Manhattan, but Central Park played tricks with my sense of direction. The surrounding skyscrapers are mostly hidden by the park’s beautiful, old trees, leaving me no frame of reference. I soon gave up trying to find anything and resigned myself to happily wandering the miles of curving paths that branched between hills, traced waterways, climbed over and under bridges, shot straight through open squares, and led me from one picturesque site to the next.

Nice pictures of Central Park! Better than most I have seen.
Hey there John,
It looks like you had a great trip in NYC. You have taken some remarkably similar shots to those I got when I got a chance to stay in New York earlier this year. I haven’t been to DC but your picture from there are fantastic. I need to think about getting a longer zoom to achieve those close-ups you got of Statue of Liberty and Abe.
Congrats, btw, to Kristie on her graduation and you both on your new house.Keith
Thank you, Keith!
Your photos of Hong Kong at night make my shots of Times Square seem dim in comparison. I’m really enjoying your Flickr site. Nice work!
John
Looking at my comment and to clarify, “Better than most I have seen.” I meant better than most Central Park pictures by others, not your stuff in general. As in, my Central Park pictures never came out that well.
Thanks, Jayson. I’m just glad the Rebel survived all of the rain. I was wishing I had a weather-sealed body like your D200.
John
The weather-sealing is nice, but it doesn’t allow me to take better pictures. 🙂 I give you a couple of years at most before you are brandishing a Canon DS1 (or whatever it will be in 2 years). How many shutter actuations are you up to? I know you were cranking out the shots before.
Any up coming lenses in your future, or are you pretty set?
I just took my 8,188th photo.
I think I’m pretty set with my lenses… I dream of faster and longer, but I’m not ready to spend that kind of money. Besides, I still have a lot of learning to do with my current equipment.
