Burghotel “Auf Schönburg”
BURGHOTEL "AUF SCHÖNBURG", OBERWESEL, GERMANY :: We have returned for a third time to our favorite castle overlooking the Rhine, Schloss Schönburg in Oberwesel. The town was once a powerful city-state, and is the oldest, largest and best preserved fortification along the UNESCO World Heritage portion of the Middle Rhine, stretching 65km between Bingen and Koblenz. The castle itself is over a thousand years old and of has been significantly restored, having been mostly destroyed by the French during the Nine Years’ War in the late 17th century. Today, it’s a beautiful hotel that we’ve fallen in love with, more so with each visit!

The mountains at Schloss Schönburg are living up to their name!
Sehr schlau, Greg! Yes, the mountains are beautiful, and often covered with so many vineyards.
