Washington Park Arboretum
UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGON, SEATTLE, WA :: Kristie and I usually devote our Sundays to relaxation and reading. She’ll work her way through a pile of books as I look through the Sunday paper. Sunday just doesn’t feel right without a few pounds of newsprint, retail advertisements and colorful comics in my lap.
Today we decided to enjoy our Sunday with a walk through the Washington Park Arboretum. We filled a backpack with our books, newspaper, a blanket, some pita bread, hummus and a chunk of watermelon. After our walk, we had a long picnic under a tree.
This was my first visit to the arboretum. It’s a great park, but I’d like to visit it again during the other seasons. Summer just doesn’t seem to be a very dramatic time for trees.
I was excited to discover the the arboretum has a Japanese Garden. It’s nice, but again, I think fall, winter and spring would be better times to visit. Kristie had never seen koi before, so it was fun to see all the multi-colored fish in the pools.
