Kitties
EDMONDS, WA :: Kristie and I are the proud new parents of two cute kittens! They were adopted from the Everett Animal Shelter. The girl is five weeks old and the boy is five months old.
Unfortunately, the two aren’t getting acquainted very well. I think the little girl is intimidated by the bigger boy, so she hisses at him and then he starts growling. We hope they’ll learn to like each other soon. Perhaps when she’s a little bigger? Any tips from the cat experts out there?
Fortunately, both have been purring nearly nonstop for almost two days. They follow us around everywhere now. The girl has an extra toe on each front paw that acts as an opposable thumb. It’s funny to see her pick up things. The boy has a nice white belly and mittens. We’ve yet to come up with names for them.
UPDATE: On the fourth day in our house, the kittens are finally accepting each other. They now play, eat and sleep together! No more hissing and growling. Hooray!

Cute Kittens and nice pictures. Hopefully they aren’t licky kitties. 🙂

Nice pictures of the kitties. What setup did you use to capture those pictuers? Keep up the good work.

Hi John,
Glad to see some new photos. The tones and light is excellent as is the details on the kittens. Not easy I know. The cats look lots of fun. They look less evil than ours. We have two Burmese of very different personality, but they are sisters and get on very well so I don’t know how to help. I guess they will grow to like each other.Keith
You have some really nice shots here. It’s very hard at least for me to get really good dog and cat shots. These are great.
Jayson – They are licky kitties, although I think you’re referring to something you or I may have said a while back. You’ll have to refresh my memory!
Michael – The first cat was shot with just natural, afternoon light from the windows. The second was a combination of natural light and a 420EX angle-bouncing off an index card and the ceiling. I used the 50mm and the telephoto.
Keith – Thanks for the comments! I originally wanted pure bred cats, but these little “mutts” are turning out to be a great pair of kittens.
Roger – The key for me is volume. =) I must have taken about 200 shots to get these few keepers. You have a nice website, by the way! Thanks for visiting.
John
Did you go to the Cat event they had on Sunday? We had info about it here in our office.
Good to finally see something new =)
Hi Matt,
Yes, it was an “adopt-a-thon” and free micro-chipping event. They had multiple shelters there with their available kittens. We took advantage of the special, “adopt one kitten and get the second for one buck.” Lots of balloons and free cat toys too!

Hey John,
Our girls still hiss at eachother occasionally. And they are littermates. Probably still figuring out who is alpha in the house. Make sure that the alpha is either you or Kristie 😉

p.s. Love the photos. Especially the one where the kitty is flippin’ you off. hahaha 😉
They are cute kittens. I have one stray cat with me now. Although she has with me since 2-weeks old, the cat still keeps her ferity and never listen to my instructions. -.-“
Very cute! I’m sure you’ll be happy with tabbies – they tend to be very mellow and friendly. The girl will probably be in charge, although she will let the boy beat her up occasionally so he feels manly. It’s a cat thing. The hissing is normal.
5 weeks is very young though – be diligent with getting her wormed and keeping her away from things she could swallow (strings) and unfamiliar cats. Tricky immune system at that age. Also, your boy may accidentally hurt her for the next few weeks, just because 6 month old cats are very physical and small kittens are pretty easy to break. So just keep an eye on them.
Congrats on your new furry family!
they are SOOO cute!! congrats you two!! 🙂 I still need to come see your house sometime & now to meet the new additions to your family!Talk to you soon!Tamara
