Flooding in San Pedro
SAN PEDRO, BELIZE :: Not every day in paradise is sunny, but we tried to make the most of it! With rain jackets on, we set off for an ‘adventure,’ tackling flooded streets in our golf cart. Belize’s infamous speed bumps? One hidden underwater shattered the windshield (which the rental company definitely noticed and charged us for). On top of this, the engine flooded and stalled. After pushing the cart through traffic a few dozen feet, it finally restarted. We stopped by a gas station to refuel and survey the damage.
We had set off intending to try a new restaurant. Closed. So, we followed a recommendation to an open air bar near the airport. Let’s just say the roar of Cessnas and jet fuel didn’t quite make a great dining experience.
After refueling ourselves, we grabbed groceries and headed home, where the kiddos fortunately had fun playing in the rain with figurines I’d printed for them. They even filmed a couple little movies starring them.
The rest of the day was spent licking our wounds, resting and recharging for the rest of our vacation. Memories were still made, which we’re already recalling and laughing about!
