NORTH CREEK, BOTHELL, WA :: We watched NASA’s livestream as the Perseverance rover landed on Mars on 18 February 2021. Following the updates from mission control made for a tense few minutes, and the team’s reaction when the landing was confirmed was memorable.
At the time, Mars was 127 million miles from Earth, and signals took more than 11 minutes to reach us. This meant Perseverance had to complete its entire descent and sky-crane landing by itself. Go, Percy!
