Lake Union Fireworks
LAKE UNION, SEATTLE, WA :: To celebrate the 4th of July, Kristie and I watched the fireworks show over Lake Union. We grabbed a couple lawn chairs, walked down the hill from our house, and found a spot to sit along the Fremont Cut and under the Aurora Bridge.
It was a beautiful night. Families had claimed picnic tables in the grassy area behind the Adobe Systems building. I overheard a security guard mention they had been there with their kids since morning! It reminded me of the one time my parents brought my sister and I to Gasworks Park. We arrived early in the day and then waited ten hours for a 20 minute fireworks show. When it was over, we had to endure the traffic jams all the way back home to Tacoma. It kind of put a dampener on the fireworks excitement.
This year I took along my new Canon G3 and tripod. I aimed it at an area above the barge, set the exposure to 1.7 seconds, and sat back with the wireless remote. Throughout the show, whenever the crowd around us yelled, “Oooh!” or “Wow!”, I clicked the remote and opened the shutter. It’s a great feature! With the remote, I could keep my eyes on the show (not glued to the viewfinder) and fully enjoy the fireworks with Kristie.
