MOUNT VERNON, WA :: A great day in Mount Vernon, planned around a presentation by ecologist Chris Morgan of KUOW’s The Wild. Charlie drove us up I-5, and we started with some wildlife adventuring of our own at Wiley Slough, where the Skagit River meets Puget Sound. Lots of close encounters with kingfishers, herons, eagles, red-tailed hawks, and plenty more. Most of the bird and insect shots are from Charlie!
Next stop was Red Door Antiques, where Charlie found a very cool fiery Amberina glass bowl to bring home. Then we headed to the impressive new Mount Vernon Library Commons to hear Chris Morgan share stories from his life and career studying wildlife and working in conservation around the world. He was incredibly genuine and inspiring, even tearing up after sharing a moving piece his wife created about protecting our one and only home.
Finished the day with a nice dinner before heading back home. Wildlife, antiques, conservation, and Charlie chauffeuring. Not a bad Saturday!
