CAVES BRANCH JUNGLE LODGE, BELIZE :: When Kristie and I first visited Belize eleven years ago, our favorite experiences were exploring the network of caves that the Maya used for ceremonies and sacrifices. Today we were able to take the kids on a tour of Xibalba, the first level of the Underworld and literally translates to "a place of fear." It was more like "a place of fun" today, however, as the kids expertly navigated up, down, under, over, and through various channels and chambers, fording or floating through water to get deeper into the cave (just one kilometer of seven today). Proud of our little spelunkers and the lessons they learned!
