Christmas
FREMONT, SEATTLE, WA :: For a few years, Kristie and I used a dinky Christmas tree that we placed on top of the fireplace mantel. It was barely a foot tall, and the regular-sized ornaments we were collecting could no longer fit on its puny limbs. This year, we splurged and got a pre-lit, 7-foot, steel and plastic wonder from Lowes. It’s very nice, and spares us the guilt of having a freshly cut tree slowly dieing in our living room.
Finally, our ornaments had a suitable home. If you don’t know already, Kristie is into cutesy things, particularly Care Bears. So the tree has a few of those guys on it. One day, I whined to Kristie that there was nothing representing me on the tree, so on Christmas she surprised me with some awesome hiking ornaments: A boot, a tent, and a camping marshmallow man sitting on a brick of chocolate and graham cracker. Perfect!
We had our families over at our place on Christmas Eve. It was a great time, and I felt buried in presents. Kristie got me a handsome messenger bag made of Rawlings baseball glove leather, a new electric razor, a pair of Peanuts books, and two wool sweaters. I got her an iPod mini, an iTrip mini, a pair of earrings, a pair of tickets to see The Lion King on New Years Eve, and a kit I assembled containing everything she’d need to make a few glass mosaic crafts.
It was a great Christmas, despite not getting the plasma TV I kept asking for… Fortunately, my birthday is only a month away!
