MILTON AND CONCORD, MA :: Today we drove a short distance away from the city to experience a few of the natural attractions in Massachussetts. The first stop was a four mile loop to the top of Great Blue Hill, the highest point of elevation within ten miles of the entire Atlantic coast. A stone lookout tower offers a sweeping view of the Boston skyline and the 6,500 acres of woods within the Blue Hills Reservation.
Next, we stopped at several battleground sites between Lexington and Concord on our way to Walden Pond, where Henry David Thoreau lived for two years writing Walden, or Life in the Woods. I must admit that I don’t know too much about Thoreau or Transcendentalism , but it was a pretty pond. We followed a 1.5 mile trail that loops around it.

Hi JohnDid you take any pictures of Walden pond? I spent a good deal of my childhood swimming and fishing on Walden pond. I love fall in New England, the fall colors are spectacular. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Michael,
I took several photos of Walden Pond, but unfortunately they just didn’t turn out. The body of water behind the red maple and Kristie is Walden Pond.
John
Looks very pretty. Sounded like a great trip to the East Coast.
Thanks for the nice pictures.
I do wonder about your comment about Great Blue Hill being the highest point of elevation within ten miles of the entire Atlantic coast.
I’m pretty sure that the highest point on the east coast is Cadillac Mountain in Acadia Nat. Park, which is over 1500 ft high and dwarfs Great Blue.
