HOTEL BODMI, GRINDELWALD, SWITZERLAND :: Our trip to Iceland was great, but it was just the layover stop to Switzerland! (Icelandair lets you extend their layovers for up to seven days – and they are an Alaska Airlines partner!) When we were in Switzerland two years ago, we rented a van. This time we relied solely upon the excellent Swiss public transportation system! It’s astounding how convenient it is the criss-cross the country by rail, and on top of that, being able to access every trail, no matter how remote, by bus, train or gondola!
We stayed six nights at Das Bodmi in Grindelwald. Our apartments were an excellent base, featuring full kitchens, laundry machines, and balconies where we enjoyed many meals and waving to gondolas or paragliders landing in the field next door.

I lived in Lugano for 3 years. If you make it south, it’s amazing there! Paddle boats on the lake are always fun.
