Starr Companies is seeking a Senior/Lead SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) for a position in Atlanta, GA. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the architecture, planning, performance, maintenance, and support of the SQL Server environments, and make sure that they are being planned and built in-line with the current and future business requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Migrate existing SQL Server instances to Azure SQL or provision a new Azure SQL database
  • Performance monitoring, tuning and optimization of current SQL Server environments
  • Automate common management tasks using PowerShell
  • Implement capacity planning methodologies for SQL Server environments
  • Ensure data and applications are highly available and have disaster recovery
  • Modernize your existing applications with Azure SQL Managed Instance
  • Lead DBA team to provide day-to-day support for SQL Server environments
  • Control access to and all other security aspects of enterprise databases
  • Document processes and technical configurations
  • Work closely with Infrastructure team to keep OS and SQL Servers upgraded to latest version
  • Help implement a robust Data Archival strategy and decommission SQL Servers that are not in use
  • Work with Developers to cleanup unused tables and database code objects
  • Control Editions of the SQL Servers based on needs and thus optimize the spend
  • Maintain production SQL code under version control following best practices
  • Utilize DBA tools to monitor system’s health and provide 99.99% availability of servers
  • Provide 24x7 support for critical production systems
  • Provide Change Management support, including reviewing/ approving and implementing changes that affect databases

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (pertinent experience will also be accepted)
  • 8+ years of experience in Database Administration and experience with SQL Server2014 to 2022 versions including installation, configuration, patching and upgrades
  • Self-starter and highly motivated
  • In-depth knowledge of SQL clustering and AlwaysOn SQL Server
  • Expert in database performance tuning, query optimization, using Performance Monitor, SQL Profiler and other monitoring and troubleshooting tools in troubleshooting and resolving server and data issues
  • Experience in using DBA monitoring tools as a pro-active approach to avoid any downtimes
  • Knowledge of backups, restores, recovery models, database shrink operations, DBCC and commands
  • Proficient with T-SQL, SSIS and SSRS
  • Expert in database index management and statistics
  • Expert in SQL Server high availability and disaster recovery
  • Proficient with database architecture and modeling
  • Experience with Azure SQL deployment options (Azure SQL Managed instance, Azure SQL DB, and Synapse)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to be a part of a 24x7 on-call rotation for after hour and weekend production support
