MEDICAL OFFICE ASSISTANT FULL TIME TENURE TRACK FACULTY

Harper College seeks a full-time, tenure track faculty member to provide instruction in the Medical Office Assistant program. Located in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, Harper’s MOA program has excellent, long-standing partnerships with clinical agencies in the Chicagoland area, offering degree and certificate programs for students seeking immediate employment as medical assistants and/or healthcare office managers.

Candidates should possess expertise in areas such as patient care, organization, communication, classroom management, curriculum development (including writing syllabi), and developing/teaching MOA classes using traditional and alternative delivery methods.

Instructional responsibilities include the following: course development, updating and submission of course syllabi in required format, assessment of student outcomes, research and development of resources for instruction, and utilization and development of instructional design methods that include technology (simulation).  Timely evaluation of students including reporting of student grades and progress is required.

The medical assisting faculty and/or instructional staff must direct student learning and assess student progress in achieving the requirements of the program in the appropriate learning domains. The medical assisting faculty and/or instructional staff must be current and competent in the MAERB Core Curriculum objectives included in their assigned teaching, as evidenced by education and/or experience, and have instruction in educational theory and techniques. Medical assisting faculty includes individuals who teach courses specifically designed and unique to the medical assistant program.

The successful candidate will participate in and contribute to program, divisional and institutional committees, assignments, and activities.  Committee work will include assignment to a faculty MOA committee.  Six office hours per week for student consultation and advisement and participation in professional development, both internal and external, to remain credentialed in medical assisting and to advance in the instructional role are required.

Requirements:

• The successful candidate must be a certified CMA, RMA, or CCMA.
• The individual must have a minimum of an Associate’s degree, with a preference for a bachelor’s degree.
• At least two years of medical assistant experience and computer proficiency required
• Familiarity with Blackboard Learning Management system preferred.
• At least two years of classroom teaching experience preferred
