Job Summary

The Optical Technician is primarily responsible for manufacturing high quality eyeglasses from start to finish. Duties include tracing frames, blocking lenses to prepare them for edging, edging lenses to correct size to fit frame, properly fitting lenses into a wide variety of eyeglass frames, and inspecting eye wear using ANSI standards to ensure the highest quality product. Other duties may include using manual edging machines, cleaning and light maintenance, eyeglass repairs, and adjustments.

Duties for this position are repetitive and require analysis and use of individual judgment.

Responsibilities and Duties

All duties to be performed according to the established standard and in compliance with all company policies and procedures while maintaining regular, prompt attendance and availability for overtime as needed:

  • Utilize screwdriver and/or other tools as needed for frame type.
  • Check alignment of frame, lenses, and temples.
  • Read and analyze work ticket to ensure all processes are complete and accurate prior to edging.
  • Perform other duties within the finishing department or other areas as assigned.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Observe all company policies, rules, and safety practices.

Education/Experience

  • High School education or equivalent preferred.

Language Ability

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write short correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a team environment.

Math Ability

  • Basic ability to add and subtract.
  • Understand decimal numerical sequencing.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Demonstrate good judgment and decision making skills.

Computer Skills

  • Basic computer skills.

Certificates and Licenses

  • None required
  • ABO Certification a plus
