    CLASS TITLE : Individualized Education Program (IEP) Chairperson - Woodlawn High

    REPORTS TO : School Principal

    SUMMARY : Provides support, guidance, and consultation in the identification of students with disabilities, the development of IEPs, and the provision of special education services in the least restrictive environment. Ensures that all initiatives support the system-wide goals identified in the The Compass: Our Pathway to Excellence. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Department Chair positions are selected and renewed on a year-to-year basis.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

    Facilitates IEP teams and documents team discussion in Prior Written Notice. Distribute Prior Written Notice documentation. Monitor any required follow-up.

    Serves as an instructional leader in overseeing the development and implementation of students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

    Serves as coach for general and special education teachers as they implement instruction to meet the needs of diverse student populations.

    Provides professional development to general and special educators, paraeducators, and other school based staff members, as required.

    Analyzes assessment data and other performance measures to identify targeted instructional practices that support strategies and activities stated in the Blueprint 2.0 and the School Progress Plan.

    Models best practices for differentiating instructional content, processes, and products to meet the needs of students with varying learning capabilities. Models effective differentiated instructional strategies and sound special education pedagogy.

    Co-plans and co-teaches with classroom teachers and provides demonstration lessons as necessary.

    Promotes family engagement with a repertoire of ideas for teachers as they connect parents to classroom learning and alternative strategies used to support the varied needs of the school’s special education population.

    Works collaboratively with principal, assistant principal(s), and teachers to develop schedules and grouping arrangements to accommodate students’ needs, while maintaining a rigorous and engaging academic program for students with disabilities.

    Completes yearly team schedules prior to the first day of the school, or immediately after students have been identified as requiring special education services. Notifies all appropriate parties of schedules.

    Arranges for the participation of required IEP team members (including general educators, related service providers & special educators.) Schedules coverage for school based staff.

    Reviews all IEP related Notice of Documents

    Distributes permission to assess forms (and any other necessary forms such as referral to psychological services or assistive technology forms) to all parties involved in assessments.

    Attends mandatory countywide IEP team chair trainings.

    Perform other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    Experience, Education and Training;
    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree; plus minimum three years of satisfactory teaching performance, modeling effective teaching and reflecting best practices as well as current research. Experience working with adult learners and staff development. Effective teaching and classroom management experience at various grade levels.

    Licenses and Certifications :
    Possession of, or eligibility for, Maryland Standard Professional Certification with a special education endorsement is required.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
    practices of special education including Individualized Education Programs (IEP). Knowledge of IDEA and COMAR requirements for IEP Teams. Knowledge of curriculum. Knowledge of effective instructional techniques. Knowledge of instructional materials and equipment. Knowledge of assistive technology. Knowledge of current research-based instructional practices with a familiarity with research detailing characteristics of students from diverse backgrounds. Knowledge of reading and/or mathematics curriculum, instructional and classroom management strategies, materials, and assessment techniques.

    Demonstration of effective human relations and problem-solving skills. Demonstration of computer/educational technology skills. Demonstration of effective organizational and time-management skills.

    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to effectively maintain confidential information.

    PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS :
    The work generally performed at the school building level. Requires the ability to move throughout the school and classrooms. Work includes the operation of office equipment, including personal computers, and occasional limited physical activities.
    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :

    Requires attendance at after-school and evening meetings and events.

    Pre-Employment Requirements:
    • All persons employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (per COMAR) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $106.00. An identification card will be issued which must be shown prior to employment.
    • Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
    • If you have military experience you will be asked to provide a copy of DD214.
    • Official transcripts for all higher education must be received prior to contract signing.
    • Some positions will require employees to undergo a physical examination and/or drug testing.
    • All newly hired personnel must attend a Badges and Benefits session.
    • Additional job verification will be required for salary credit.
