What we are looking for…
We are currently seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Fund Accountant to join our growing Investment Management Group. This role will be focused on maximizing the performance and leading the reporting of current and future funds.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee accounting for joint ventures and funds in coordination with property accounting and Asset Management teams.
- Produce monthly, quarterly, and year-end consolidated reporting on investment portfolios.
- Collaborate with Portfolio Managers to maximize performance of current and future funds and JVs.
- Understand investor goals and expectations; serve as their internal advocate.
- Collaborate with Finance on the onboarding of new entities, investments, and investors.
- Create and update fund level budget based on asset-level budget and fund-level considerations.
- Adhere to compliance requirements and identify and communicate risks.
- Consider implications of acquisitions, dispositions, debt financing, and investment in capex and homes on portfolio performance.
- Collaborate with Finance on lender reporting.
- Work with Legal on regulatory filings and unexpected issues or concerns.
- Review, calculate, and oversee complex management fees, incentive fees, capital calls, and distributions.
- Oversee and coordinate annual tax reporting requirements, partnering with outside preparers.
- Responsible for fund financials, taxes, invoices, bill payment, and document amendments.
- Assist with treasury management for daily cash activity, including trades, remittances, and various other receipts and disbursements.
- Assist Treasury with forecast of cash sources and uses.
- Assist with the monthly structured financing waterfall process in coordination with Asset Management team, financing counterparties, agent banks, and fund administrator.
- Analyze Capital Account as it relates to balance, minimum gain recognition and the potential for reallocation of loss resulting from capital account depletion.
- Prepare and review daily journal entries for the month-end close, including new investment purchases, sales, and distributions based on all cash, investment, and investor activity in real estate private equity funds. Prepare journal entries for accruals.
- Maintain account details and supporting schedules like list of o/s deposits, fee payables, vendor payables, affiliated receivable/payables, etc.
- Make suggestions on software and management systems to better manage accounting.
- Ensure that all investment entity financial statements follow US GAAP and any official guidelines and requirements related to partnership and investment taxation.
- Ensure investment entity financial statements follow IFRS and other requirements as requested by capital partners.
- Oversee and coordinate the fund’s annual audit process including managing relationships with external auditors.
- Bring functions outsourced to 3rd party administrator in-house (reconcile bank accounts, produce financial statements, issue investor capital statements, record fund transactions, initiate wire payments, track investor contributions/distributions)
Education / Requirements:
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
- Proficient in financial analysis and financial modeling.
- Communication skills and ability to collaborate with internal and external parties to meet deadlines and resolve issues.
- Exceptional attention to detail, thoroughness, and organization skills.
- Team player, self-motivated and strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and within a team to build relationships and interact effectively.
- Ability to prioritize and manage time to consistently meet deadlines.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with substantive and relevant work experience in accounting.
- Prior experience with a CPA firm or fund manager a plus and preferred.
- CPA a plus.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
