What Your Day Will Look Like

As an English Learner Teacher in our District, the successful candidate will provide onsite, in-person instruction for our English Learners to acquire language, both social and academic, and content knowledge. The majority of the day will involve pushing into elementary classrooms to provide instruction while also providing language and translation support to newcomer students. This includes developing and preparing lesson plans reflective of the district curriculum and integrating age and developmentally appropriate language-immersion practices. Additionally, the successful candidate will assess and monitor student progress/grading; use innovative and creative approaches for inclusive teaching to reach all students; provide a safe and respectful learning environment; and, communicate with students, families, colleagues, and administrators.

Our Ideal Candidate

• Holds valid Wisconsin Teaching Licenses in English as a Second Language. Willing to consider candidates obtaining this license within one year of employment.
• Bilingual in Spanish and fluent in speaking, writing, translation, and interpretation
• Understands current teaching and learning strategies specific to English Learner education.
• Has working knowledge of a positive behavior approach such as Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
• Is a passionate and engaging educator
• Demonstrates ability to build positive, nurturing relationships with all learners
• Is a leader in the effort to achieve an equitable learning experience for all students
• Is able to maintain a positive and safe learning environment
• Possesses a collaborative and solution oriented mindsets
• Is flexible and adaptable, especially during times of change
• Demonstrates good communication skills, including ability to guide and supervise groups of students, maintain confidentiality, and work with students in a positive and motivational manner
