SUM M A R Y:

This role is a key operational governance and support position for Pike Engineering. The Manager Engineering Operations Processes will lead the center of expertise to improve operational business processes essential to position the Engineering organization for the future. The position reports to the Sr Director – Engineering Chief of Staff and serves as a peer to operational leaders as well as corporate support leaders across the Pike enterprise.

As business is experiencing aggressive expansion, year-over-year growth is forecast to be 15% - 20%, with margins improving as the increased volume of business affords economies of scale and business efficiency. Under the leadership of the Manager – Engineering Operations Processes, support staff will work with operations and support staff to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the engineering business. The team will facilitate process improvements, using LEAN manufacturing/Kaizen/Six Sigma principles and methods to innovate and institutionalize operational improvements in key processes. As appropriate, the team will leverage data through advanced analytics to increase business intelligence and drive improvement. In some cases, information technology solutions, including app development and automation through AGILE methods will result. The team will develop solutions, standards, tools, templates, and other resources to support consistent operations and use of best practices. To ensure long-term, sustainable impact the team will also establish sufficient governance and operational process controls to ensure sustained alignment, clarity of responsibilities, and efficiencies, while at the same time, enabling field operations to differentiate themselves with customer-centered (and often unique-to-the-client) services and work products. By leading initiatives across Engineering, the Manager will take on responsibilities that support operations, allowing operations teams to focus on customers, employees, and growth of their respective business.

The incumbent will model the values of the organization and will demonstrate exceptional leadership skills, judgement, communications, collaboration, and business acumen as they carry out assigned duties and responsibilities.

ESSENTI A L DUTIE S A ND RESPONSIBILITIE S : 

Accountable for supporting business planning activities; integration of business plans to financial plans. Manage on behalf of the Sr Director implementation of the business plan initiatives and deliverables.


Responsible for facilitating strategic and tactical initiatives, maintaining mechanisms to track progress, reinforce accountability, and identify variances to initiative status for the purpose of taking corrective action.


Support weekly/monthly performance tracking, data analysis, to reinforce transparency, monitor KPIs and leading indicators, to improve business effectiveness / operational efficiency


Govern Operations Processes: define expectations and parameters for key operational processes, working under the direction of the Sr Director and Executive leadership team. Standardize at the appropriate level uniform compliance requirements across all Engineering Operations for individual processes, with clear demarcation of the tolerances within which the Operations groups must comply versus have license to vary (unique to customer, work type, market differentiation) Lead and support process improvement, efforts to optimize performance and reduce costs.


Provide business analysis to produce intelligence and insight informing business improvement and corrective action planning.


Provide exemplary leadership of direct reports to identify and solve major issues within the organization. Setting a positive culture that permeates their organization.


Interface between Engineering and support organizations (Finance, IT, HR) to improve and integrate support promoting efficiency, effectiveness, and employee engagement.


Support the Engineering Technology Plan and direct improvements to leverage technology and associated processes across Engineering


Builds a strong rapport with other leaders across the enterprise to accomplish mutual goals and objectives for the organization.


Develop assigned leaders and identify future leaders through succession planning and leadership development

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIE S :

Directly supervise a staff of Directors, Managers and Professional Support Staff responsible for assigned operations. Duties include oversight of salary administration, performance management, coaching and counselling, conflict resolution and disciplinary actions for assigned organization.

The organization for the incumbent will begin with a few existing employees and will grow as functional support for the business to potentially 20-40 employees.

Preferred – A Bachelor degree fro m a fou r -year college or university.

Preferred – Graduate degree in business or related field.

Required – A 4-year college degree in Engineering or Business fields

Experience

10+ Year(s) Experience in financial planning and analysis, business process improvement, or operational support and governance

CERTIFIC A T I ONS , LICENSES , REGISTR A TIONS:

Preferred – Certifications or training in process engineering, project management, continuous improvement, or other management or leader training.

L A NGU A G E SKILL S :

A. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.

B. Ability to write reports, Business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

C. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

1. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret spread sheets.
