The New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) is a state agency responsible for maintaining the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway - two of the busiest toll roads in the United States. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Utilize a variety of s hop tools and equipment including scan tool s and diagn os tic equipment to p e rform difficult to complex repair tasks on vehicle a nd equipment.
- Perfo rm s hi g hly specialized diagno st ic and repair work related to computerized ignition and fue l injection syste m s, body contro l , transmissions, differentia l s, s teering components, a nd engines; t est drive s vehic l es a nd equipment to ensure proper operation and performance .
- Overhauls and rebuilds mechanical components and systems such as diesel and gasoline e ngine s, tran sm i ss ion s, hydraulic , electrical, cooling, brakes, and suspension systems.
- Inspects and perform s preventive maintenance on a variety of cars, trucks, and specialized equipment such as agricultural equipment, construction equipment, and other related types of equipment.
- Mentor apprentice candidates in pursuit of automotive technician journeyman.
- Completes and maintains records of servicing operations such as work orders and labor time entries by means of a personal computer, and vehicle bi-directional interface software.
- Performs federal inspections, maintains a safe, clean, organized work area.
- Performs all related work utilizing maintenance person in an emergency situation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Educational requirements include a four (4) year standard high school diploma or GED, a graduate of formal accredited automotive vocational training in the areas of Automobile Technician or Medium/Heavy Truck Technician.
- Alternatively, the satisfactory completion of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority apprenticeship program satisfies the above stated education requirements.
- ASE certification in Automobile Technician or Medium/Heavy Truck Technician and/or Accredited Original Equipment Manufacturer's Automotive or Truck Technician Training required.
- Accredited original equipment manufacturer (OEM) new model ce1tiftcation shall be achieved, on a regular ongoing basis as scheduled by management, during the entire term of employment.
