POSITION SUMMARY:
The individual in this position is responsible for the performance of a wide variety of support related functions including, but not limited to, assisting in customization and application troubleshooting support of GC products , design and review of Visio gas flow schematics based on marketing applications criteria , review & edit current custom GC build documentation for internal Shimadzu use , development of technical application documents related to the GC products, complying with established quality and quantity standards, and continuing to work under minimal supervision, incumbent will be able to instruct others in product theory, operation , maintenance & test requirements of the assigned products. Incumbent must be able to repair those product lines in accordance with established standards and schedules, as well as perform other related duties from time to time.
This position is responsible for the proper configuration and testing of instruments within the incumbent’s responsibility.

JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Accurate documentation of parts used, defects found, and repairs performed.
- Develop a knowledge base through the accurate documentation and reporting of product failures and repairs.
- Timely and accurate submission of all required paperwork.
- Ability to construct and troubleshoot GC systems based on flow schematic criteria.
- Ability to evaluate GC system build processes and develop technical documentation for internal Shimadzu publications. Provide product design change and improvement recommendations.
- Perform applications work as required effectively positioning the product. Perform methodology adaptation work for customers as needed.
- Provide training to departmental personnel.
- Limited travel to the field to install and support assigned products.
SCOPE:
This position's primary focus is to ensure each completed system is free of defects and configured to the customer’s specifications.

PROBLEM SOLVING REQUIREMENTS:
Incumbent must be proficient at effectively and efficiently performing inspections, test and audit functions and providing, when necessary, design change and improvement recommendations.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
The incumbent is required to have either a Bachelor’s degree in the life sciences or technical school certification with at least 2 years of relevant working experience. At least two years of technical applications/method development experience in the appropriate product line is a plus. Incumbent should have experience in maintenance and/or repair of analytical instrumentation through work or school. Attention to detail and strong customer service skills are required along with a dependable work ethic.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The position requires frequent lifting (or by other means for movement) of boxes and computer components/parts. Physical demands may include frequent bending; stooping, squatting, standing, walking, sitting for long periods of time and pulling/pushing of parts can also be expected. Incumbent must be able to lift up to 50 pounds routinely throughout the day. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
SAFETY/PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:
The position is required to maintain proper housekeeping and safety standards in particular those related to lab safety protocol. Proper use of personal protective equipment and safety devices as required by the Corporate Safety Document policies and procedures and/or customer’s dictated policy is required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position is based in an office area that requires regular and predictable attendance. It will involve working alone on projects and collaborating as part of team. Incumbent may work at different workstations during the day and travel to regional locations in order to support the information technology needs of all company employees. Extra hours may periodically be required, in order to fulfill the functions required by this position. The position will include contact with all SSI employees and requires prompt and friendly handling of all related inquires.
