XUNANTUNICH MAYAN RUINS, SAN IGNACIO, BELIZE :: Today we took our trusty 4Runner within a mile of the Guatemalan border to explore the ancient Mayan city of Xunantunich, believed to have been built around 700 AD. Part of the adventure was just getting there, as we had to drive 30 minutes down the mountain and then use a hand-powered ferry to cross the Mopan River. Once there, we had fun climbing the temples and enjoying the views, imagining a day in the life of the impressive Mayans – and also wondering a thousand years from now, what will people think of us?
