SAN JUAN ISLAND, WA :: Lauren's favorite animal is the fox, and we recently heard there is a population of them on San Juan Island. So off we went! Sure enough, we saw red and silver foxes every morning and night, particularly along Pickett's Lane on the way to South Beach, but also in our vacation rental's backyard near Eagle Cove. Most of our sightings were far and fleeting, but on our last night, we lucked out with a handsome fox that crossed the road and allowed us to trot alongside it for a while. We were all thrilled, of course, but especially Lauren! During our stay, we also saw many deer, rabbits, eagles, hawks, owls, quail, and even a sea otter on our way back near the Lopez Island ferry dock!
