Dallas Arboretum
DALLAS, TX :: Yes, there is greenery in Dallas! Just a few miles from downtown is White Rock Lake, Dallas’s own version of Seattle’s beloved Green Lake park, complete with athletic fields, playgrounds, fishing docks, a performing arts theater and a paved trail packed with runners and rollerbladers. However, as with most things in Texas, White Rock Lake is much larger than Green Lake. The trail around the lake is 9.5 miles.
White Rock Lake also hosts the very lovely Dallas Arboretum. We spent a couple hours there, enjoying the well-maintained grounds and colorful plants. It really was a nice park and probably the highlight of our trip.
In one section, much to Kristie’s delight, Dove® was presenting “The Amazing Chocolate Tree,” featuring interactive stations that described the cultivation, harvest and manufacturing process of chocolate. Free Dove bars and ice cream were provided, and the entire area smelled like chocolate, due to the generous amount of roasted cocoa bean hulls that were used as mulch in many of the areas. I wonder if anyone sells that stuff around here?
