Summary of Job Duties:
Responsibilities:
Performance of administrative tasks and related activities pertaining to the day-to-day operation of the UMCC including but not limited to:
- Manages, directs, and coordinates the day-to-day operations of the University Museum and Cultural Center;
- Oversees budget development and ensures both accuracy and integrity of the financial and accounting records;
- Cultivates relationships with private donors;
- Seeks grant funding opportunities;
- Acts as Title III activity director - attends monthly meetings, provides quarterly reports, interim reports, and annual reports that measure key performance indicators;
- Represents the museum at public events on behalf of the University;
- Plans and develops mission, goals, and objectives for the administration of
- Receives all historical gifts on behalf of the University;
- Develops policies and procedures for the museum;
- Assesses museum artifacts to determine appropriate conservation measures;
- Performs in-depth examination of artifacts, documents, and materials to determine structure and cosmetic needs;
- Researches museum records, books, photographs, and documents to identify the condition and determines treatment and methods of restoration;
- Maintains and updates displays consistent with historical lineage;
- Travels to other museums and conducts public relations activities to foster relationships;
- Attends workshops for museum personnel on topics of museum management to stay abreast of current trends for museums;
- Supervises a professional and administrative support staff; and
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in art, museum studies, history, art history, or a related field;
- Experience in higher education environment engaging undergraduate and graduate students.
- Experience in communicating complex history topics for diverse audiences;
- Familiarity with the history of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and the Arkansas Delta;
- Excellent computer skills (Microsoft and Abode Creative Cloud Suite), Mac PCs, scanner, etc.;
- Knowledge of graphic design and archival software programs;
- Knowledge of artifact presentation;
- Ability to plan and develop appropriate museum displays;
- Ability to identify/assess items relevant to preserving the University's rich history;
- Ability to assess the condition of museum and archival items;
- Ability to research and write articles, papers, and reports;
- Ability to oversee cataloging and digitization process of museum material;
- Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate multiple activities within the same time frame;
- Self-starter with the ability to work flexible and independent schedule, as needed;
- Ability to work tactfully and courteously with diverse groups of students, colleagues, volunteers, and visitors;
- Excellent communication (oral and written) skills, organizational, time-management, and customer service skills;
- Commitment to academic excellence, diversity, planning, and development based on goals, objectives, and collegiality; and
- Three (3) years of experience involving museum or archival conservation or related field.
