Truck Driver 1/ on-call (POOL)
These positions are non-permanent, on-call , and due to the emergent need, application review will begin immediately.

**This recruitment will be used to establish an agency applicant pool through December 31, 2022 to fill vacant on-call positions as they occur.

The Department of Enterprise Services (DES) is not a typical state agency. Sure, we have clerical and managerial positions, but we also cover a wider range we bet you didn't know about! What you will do
In this position, you will be responsible for pickup and delivery of mail between state agencies, operating light to medium duty commercial class vehicles rated 2,000 GVW to 25,000 GVW. Regular and timely attendance is essential for this position as well as providing outstanding customer service. You will regularly and repeatedly lift/move/transfer mail trays, tubs and packages weighing up to 75 lbs. and load and unload GPC's with an average weight 1,000lbs, on and off trucks via dock lift or truck lift gate.

Your contact with internal and external customers is frequent and you must display courteous interpersonal skills. It is of the upmost importance that all communication is done with a positive attitude and in a professional manner. You will be expected to answer questions about services and provide accurate information. Interactions must be timely in order not to disturb the customers workflow. Duties

Some of what you will be doing


The majority of work is performed getting in and out of vehicles of varying sizes, delivering mail to various locations within tight timelines. Traffic delays, mechanical problems and breakdowns, inclement weather, and physical demands of loading and unloading heavy items are to be expected. Some work is performed in a warehouse/mail processing environment. You must be willing and able to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods in noisy conditions without loss of concentration.

Additional duties include but are not limited to
  • Regularly/repeatedly lifting mail trays, tubs and/or packages weighing up to 75 lbs.
  • Loading and unloading GPC’s. Average weight 1,000 lbs. On and off trucks via dock lift/truck lift gate
  • Timely and accurately maintain established route schedule, while providing exceptional customer service
  • Maintain chain of custody of all mail as required
  • Provide necessary security to safeguard all mail
  • Classify, sort, and segregate mail
  • Operate hand trucks, forklifts; pallet jacks dock lifts and handheld tracking devices (Perform minor repairs as necessary)
  • Teamwork to load, unload, and properly dispatch mail
  • Daily safety inspection of assigned vehicle. Report any safety concerns promptly.
  • Maintain a clean, uncluttered vehicle
  • Maintain proper fluid levels: fuel, oil, coolant etc.
  • Perform minor repairs as necessary
  • Fill out vehicle service requests for vehicle maintenance issues
  • Fill out accident reports (as needed) for any accident, major or minor
  • Daily mileage logs, billing forms, and timesheets
  • Misc. forms (delivery manifest, packing slips, etc.)

Qualifications

Special Note
Travel is required and varies from 5 to 250 miles per day.


Distribution operates Monday – Friday 3:00am–6:00pm with 5-8 shifts and 4-10 shifts.

Required
  • High school diploma or GED;
  • At least 18 years of age;
  • At least 2 years of driving experience;
  • Demonstrated ability to read and write;
  • Valid unrestricted driver's license;
    • ONLY if selected for hire, you must provide a current copy of your Driver's Abstract. (Please note you will have a $15 fee)
  • Able to work varying hours and shifts
  • Many state facilities are fragrance free and personal hygiene must be maintained.
  • Able to read and write; and
  • Must be able repeatedly and regularly lift/move/transfer items weighing up to 75 pounds.
