Position Summary
This is a .8 FTE temporary unclassified unrepresented confidential position.

This position will be a member of the Employee and Labor Relations Team in the Office of Academic Affairs, the Academic Labor Relations Specialist uses professional methodologies and best practices to provide direct support to the AELR Team. Responsibilities include scheduling, tracking, processing, and managing academic employee related actions, academic union collective bargaining and negotiations outcomes, not taking, archiving, and direct administrative support to PSU bargaining teams.

The Temporary Administrative and Labor Relations Assistant serves as high-level, professional, and confidential Labor Relations Specialist support to the Vice Provost for Academic Personnel and Dean of Interdisciplinary General Education (VP APDIGE) and the Director of Academic Employee and Labor Relations (DAELR). Additionally, this position works in collaboration with the Director of Academic Personnel Administration and Operations, the AELR Special Projects Coordinator, and the Executive Assistant to the VP APDIGE.

Responsibilities are performed in both a diverse team environment, as well as independently and require excellent communication skills, independent initiative, judgment, and discretion.

Duties and responsibilities include:
  • Providing personal/confidential assistance to the Director of Academic Labor Relations (DALR), including, but not limited to, the preparation of general and confidential correspondence, including drafting responses as appropriate. The position will coordinate work to provide assistance to the DALR through note taking and google drive management of union negotiations and bargaining outcome/agreements. This position will maintain filing systems, review and prioritize incoming correspondence and email, coordinate the DALR’s electronic meeting calendar and schedule and support collective bargaining sessions.


  • Helping to accomplish special projects that are under the direction of the VP APDIGE and DALR including, but not limited to, calendar maintenance, case, project and meeting support, filing and information maintenance. The position will provide support for events, meetings and special projects. Special sensitivity is required in the handling of confidential information and discussions involving issues related to AAUP, PSUFA and GEU collective bargaining issues, including, but not limited to promotion and tenure, grievances, union information requests, and other personnel matters.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Exemplary skills in interpersonal and written communication, including note taking, drafting, and editing.
  • Competencies in Google Workspace, Word, Excel, in a Macintosh/Windows environment.
  • Experience in prioritizing and managing multiple projects; and professional experience in a team context with sensitivities to working in a quality management environment with persons of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • This position requires the incumbent to demonstrate appropriate discretion and confidentiality in support of the Vice Provost for Academic Personnel and Dean of Interdisciplinary General Education and the Director of Academic Employees and other PSU offices.

Work Days/Hours

Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement
The starting salary for this position will be between $22.38 and $25.00 per hour, dependent on experience, skills, knowledge and abilities. This position is not eligible for benefits.
