Overview

MHA in Ulster County, Inc. has a Full-Time (35 hours per week) position as a Supported Education Coordinator to assist with the implementation of all aspects of the ACES supported education program at SUNY Ulster. The Supported Education Coordinator provides individualized counseling/assistance, peer support, pre-semester orientation, career development and exploration, linkages with resources and needed supports, and skill building seminars.

The position requires strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. A knowledge of mental health systems and experience working with people with psychiatric disabilities extremely helpful.

The schedule for this position is Monday - Friday 9am - 4:30pm.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Process authorizations and intakes of applicants referred to the ACES program.
• Assist students individually with the completion of necessary forms (i.e., admissions, financial aid) and with negotiating various college systems.
• Develop supportive relationships with students and maintain ongoing, continuous contact with them for as long as they are attending college.
• Provide skill building opportunities to assist student in succeeding such as: study skills, accessing academic supports, assertiveness, organization, time and stress management skills.
• Other duties and Wellness Team Tasks as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology or Human Service related field and a minimum of two years of experience in providing employment-related services to persons who have disabling conditions.
• Familiarity and comfort with the postsecondary setting, college forms, procedures and systems
• A clean, valid NYS driver’s license that will meet and maintain a satisfactory driving record consistent with agency and insurance standards and have been driving for at least 6 years.
• Ability to safely perform the essential functions of the position, with or without accommodations required by federal, state, or local law.
