Job Summary:
This Database Engineer/Administrator role is a cross-functional role supporting Production, Development, QA, and Staging Database tiers. There will be some cross-functional activity involving AWS Infrastructure.
We are seeking an independent thinker who produces creative solutions to problems. We have a large AWS presence and are continuing our migration from On-Prem/CoLo to AWS. In this role, you will bring your experience and skills to help build solutions with a strong technical foundation.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Administrative activities include monitoring, backup management, performance optimization, log-in/user management, and other DBA-related activities as needed
- Develop and implement solutions across our database ecosystem
- Functionally Decompose existing legacy SQL Stored Procedures and C++ application code to find optimization opportunities for refactoring
- Assist in managing our AWS infrastructure as we continue our migrations and meet our growing scale requirements
- Provide SQL development guidance to other developers from an SME standpoint
- Backup from Prod and Restore to lower environments to support other Dev Teams
- Installation/Configuration of new SQL Server instances
- Some after-business hours/weekend work will be needed
Qualifications:
- BS degree in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in General Application Development Processes and Methods, C#, C++, Python, MS SQL Server (DEV/DBA), PostgreSQL, API Development
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Experience with SQL Development - MS SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL
- Experience with SQL Server performance monitoring, backup (DR/BC) and optimization solutions
- MS Office proficiency - Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Experience in Agile Development, CI/CD, Jira, GitHub, Visual Studio, VS Code, PowerShell, and Operating in a Cloud Environment
Preferred:
- AWS Infrastructure Management (creation and administration of EC2’s, S3, EBS, ROUTE53, Lambda, etc.)
- Docker or other containers
- Active Directory
- Database Administration
- Data Privacy and Security experience
