Stanley Black & Decker is seeking a motivated individual to join its Corporate Tax Department in New Britain, CT as Senior Tax Specialist. The Stanley Black & Decker Tax Department operates in a fast-paced, collaborative, and dynamic environment. The Tax Senior will report to the Manager, Corporate Tax, and will focus on the Company's domestic tax compliance and financial reporting obligations in accordance with ASC 740. The ideal candidate is organized, responsive, flexible and can handle multiple projects that produce accurate and timely results while maintaining a positive "can do" attitude with a high degree of professionalism.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Prepare/review federal proformas and state tax returns for Stanley Black and Decker U.S. affiliates for incorporation into the Company's consolidated Form 1120.
  • Assist with the preparation of the Company's consolidated Form 1120.
  • Prepare/review special projects/computations supporting the federal tax return including the following: IPIC LIFO & UNICAP inventory calculations, R&D credit, transaction cost studies and equity-based compensation.
  • Prepare and/or review federal and state quarterly estimated tax payments and extensions.
  • Partner with members of the finance organization to analyze significant book transactions and determine the applicable tax treatment in accordance with the relevant tax authority.
  • Partner with the Tax Planning Group to determine income tax compliance and reporting obligations emanating from the implementation of tax planning strategies.
  • Support IRS and state taxing authority income tax audits by assisting in the preparation of responses.
  • Prepare/review components of the U.S. federal quarterly and annual tax reporting deliverables in accordance with ASC 740.
  • Prepare/review tax account reconciliations to ensure that such accounts are fairly stated and properly supported.
  • Maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax return preparation process.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement in the Company's tax procedures.
  • Assist Corporate IT with the implementation of process improvements using technology.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments and communicate the effects of these developments to the tax team and tax management.
  • Provide support with various internal audits and special tax related projects.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or other related business disciplines required
  • CPA and/or Master's degree in tax or accounting a plus
  • Corporate Tax Experience (3-5 years) in Public Accounting and/or U.S. multi-national corporation
  • Knowledge of the tax code, compliance and procedures for corporations
  • Knowledge of ASC 740 Income Taxes
  • Strong accounting, analytical, and research skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work well independently as well as the ability to work well with stakeholders
  • Ability to utilize project management to organize and prioritize tasks
  • Strong computer skills - proficient in standard Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, Outlook and Powerpoint)
  • Experience with SAP and Hyperion
  • Experience with Corptax and Longview a significant plus
  • Strong work ethic and ability to partner in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously
