Chewy's Supply Chain Research and Planning Team is seeking a Research Scientist III to join the growing Supply Chain Replenishment Science team. Combining a background in Supply Chain with a deep understanding of data science, you will be a part of a team driving the strategic planning and research initiatives for replenishment optimization. This includes identifying the right inputs to optimize our procurement strategies and developing the various machine learning models from ground up. Chewy’s Supply Chain team operates in a fast-paced environment where every day brings new challenges and new opportunities. You will be responsible for designing and implementing solutions and technologies which will handle the growing business needs and play a key role in redefining what it means to be a world-class organization.
What You’ll Do:
- Develop and implement models and algorithms to solve complex supply chain problems using machine learning techniques, operations research, and statistics.
- Deep dive large supply chain data to explain change, develop insights, and provide recommendations.
- Work with stakeholders across organizations (with Demand Planning, S&OP, Transportation, and Supply Planning) to understand business requirements and translate them into technical specifications for models and algorithms.
- Implement process improvement initiatives that drive improvements to the metrics and streamline the Supply Chain.
- Communicate technical concepts and results to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in machine learning and supply chain management, and incorporate them into our solutions.
What You’ll Need:
- An advanced degree (MS, PhD (preferred), or equivalent experience) in Statistics, Computer Science, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, or related fields.
- 3+ years of hands-on academic or practical experience in developing and deploying machine learning models.
- Familiarity with machine learning libraries such as Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
- Knowledge and experience in supply chain highly preferred.
- Ability to use collaborative programming tools (Git, Confluence, etc.)
- Ability to translate complex data sets and research into simple business recommendations.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize competing requirements.
Compensation & Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $116,000-$234,500. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant.

Non-exempt hourly team members accrue paid time off (PTO) while salaried-exempt team members have unlimited PTO, subject to manager approval. Non-exempt hourly team members in Fulfillment Centers and Customer Service are also eligible for additional unplanned unpaid time off (UTO). Team members will receive six paid holidays per year. Team members may be eligible for paid sick and family leave in compliance with applicable state and local regulations.
