This position is located at Vandenberg Space Force Base, California.
This job is not eligible for telecommuting.
Essential Functions
- Inspect, troubleshoot, adjust, align, repair, refurbish Optics Prime Mission Equipment (PME) and associated support equipment using optical test and measurement workstations in a lab environment
- Perform Depot related repairs and refurbishments on Optics utilizing mechanical drawings, electrical/electronic schematics, wiring diagrams, engineering sketches, Technical Orders, and vendor/shop manuals
- Provide skilled support to Optical equipment installations, modifications and removal projects
- Perform Programmed Depot Maintenance (PDMs), Unscheduled Depot Level Maintenance (UDLMs) and Emergency Depot Level Maintenance (EDLMs) on Optics Range PME
- Complete assigned training in a timely manner to establish a level of proficiency and qualification essential for mission support
- Adhere to established policies and procedures pertaining to job site safety, security, and timekeeping
- Perform other duties/cross utilization as required
- Other duties as assigned
Required Skills
- Ability to work independently of direct supervision or technical personnel.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with specific emphasis on attention to detail.
Required Experience
- Associates Degree in Electronic Technology or related field; equivalent military experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years of electronic equipment Optics and Optical theory or applicable range experience
- Knowledge of Environmental and OSHA Standards
- Knowledge of ISO9000 Quality inspection process
- Experience using optical analysis and design software including (but not limited to); Durango Interferometric analysis utilizing LUPI, EOI software for VIP-100, ZYGO software – MetroPro, Optikos software – Optest, Lab View, test equipment, Imatest preferred
- Ability to perform technical repair duties of an intermediate complexity
- Proficient using Electro-optical test equipment and tools
- Knowledge of Optical theory, Interferometry, Wave Theory and Aberrations Ability to read and comprehend mechanical drawings, electrical/electronic schematics, wiring diagrams and cable assembly drawings and engineering sketches, Shop Work Orders (SWO's), Specifications Sheets, and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) manuals
- Knowledge of IPC A-600 standards preferred.
- Factory trained in Cinetel Telescope Repair and Schneider Lens Repair preferred
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
- May be required to travel in support of work at off base locations
- The flexibility to work occasional non-duty hours or on weekends to support specific requirements
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance, which includes U.S. citizenship or U.S. naturalization.
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License required.
- Salary determined by Collective Bargaining Agreement

The hourly rate for this role is determined by a Collective Bargaining Unit and ranges from $33.09 to $41.21. RGNext considers several factors when extending an offer for employment, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, education/training and preferred skills and knowledge.
