Location/Division Specific Information

This role supports the Rapid Diagnostics Solutions (RDS) business unit, part of the Genetic Sciences Group at Thermo Fisher Scientific. This business plays a significant role in the diagnostic point of care (POC) segment by providing rapid PCR-based diagnostic solutions to medical practitioners in diverse healthcare settings such as urgent care centers, retail pharmacies and physician offices. The role is located in San Diego, California.

The Senior Manager, Product Management leads the global product strategy for a portfolio of molecular diagnostic (MDx) products for infectious disease applications. The Senior Manager, Product Management is responsible for the product life-cycle management while acting as the liaison between Sales, Market Development, R&D, Manufacturing, Regulatory Affairs, Quality Affairs, Technical/Customer Support and Supply Chain. The Senior Manager, Product Management is responsible for driving product roadmaps from concept to commercialization including market analysis, product definition, positioning and pricing.

A day in the Life:

  • Develop and implement business strategy for portfolio of MDx point-of-care products
  • Create, manage, and monitor business plans and product roadmaps for new and existing products
  • Develop a thorough knowledge of customer segments, conduct market research, and assess competitive landscape
  • Understand customer needs, perform voice of customer (VOC), and define product requirements with corresponding business or financial justification
  • Understand, follow and be accountable for business aspects of Product Commercialization Process (PCP) for new products
  • Develop the global go-to-market strategy for new products including product positioning and pricing for the target segments
  • Manage total product lifecycle, setting organizational cadence for retirement, refresh or enhancement of existing products
  • Develop pricing strategy to meet revenue and profitability goals
  • Analyze, interpret and report out market and channel trends and product sales activities to senior management or other business partners
  • Interface with external Key Opinion Leaders to maximize opportunities and demands for product portfolio

Keys to Success:

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in scientific discipline
  • MBA or PhD preferred

Experience

  • 5+ years of Product Management experience in molecular diagnostics
  • Experience with point of care testing and infectious diseases preferred
  • Track record of success in launching regulated products for global market
  • Demonstrated ability to develop business cases, customer and product requirements for strategic and/or complex products, soliciting and integrating Voice of Customer and User Centered Innovation inputs
  • Demonstrated experience successfully managing product lines, pricing, and forecasting
  • Is customer-centric and keenly aware of markets, trends, and competitors
  • Experience with validated and regulated markets is a plus
  • Knowledgeable of Reimbursement Policies and Guidelines
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills are required

The salary range estimated for this position is $160,000 - $190,000. This position will also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. Actual compensation will be confirmed in writing at the time of offer.
