General Purpose of Position
To assist groundskeepers, gardeners, and arborist maintaining the landscaping and grounds of the Elon University campus. This positions essential to the over all aesthetics that has been established at Elon University.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The primary objective is the mowing of the campus grounds and other related property that has to be maintained by our staff. Dependent on experience or training individuals will make up one or two groups that are assigned areas that are their responsibility to be mowed. This also includes trimming, edging, and blowing off of walks and roads. The operation and maintenance of the equipment is essential to our success as a department. Groundskeepers need to demonstrate the ability to look, listen, and feel if a piece of equipment they are operating is functioning properly. Daily preventative maintenance by operators will ensure for the care of their equipment. If there is a problem they are to report it to the manager or mechanic to address it. Secondarily, groundskeepers are assigned a number of tasks according to the time of year and additional responsibilities delegated by the manager. Tasks range from landscape renovation, fertility program, ground repair, and pine needling. Perform scheduled maintenance activites to include but not limited to the support of special events, projects, conferences, and other activites hosted on the campus of Elon University.

Must have a valid North Carolina driver’s license and be insurable by the University’s carrier. Following a conditional offer of employment, Elon conducts motor vehicle record checks on all job applicants who are required to drive a university vehicle as an essential function of their job. Thereafter, a random motor vehicle record check will be conducted annually. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a motor vehicle record check.
