Job Title: Research Specialist – Core Team
Department: Framingham Heart Study – Exam Center
Reports to: Exam Center Manager
Job Summary:
Our world-renowned heart study, in partnership with Boston University, is looking for a Research Specialist (RS) to join our team and actively participate in the evaluation of our volunteer participants who range in age from 40 to over 100 years old. Duties/Responsibilities:
Our highest priority is to engage with our volunteer participants and make them feel welcome and appreciated while collecting data in accordance with the study protocol.
You will perform ECG testing, take body measurements, administer questionnaires and conduct cognitive testing. No experience is necessary; we will train you. If interested, we can also teach you how to draw blood.
Your ability to proactively anticipate, identify and mitigate potential issues before they arise is key to being a successful RS. You will also provide some administrative support to the team, to ensure quality and consistency of exam operations. Occasional travel to participants homes to conduct offsite examinations is required.
After 1 year in this position, the successful Research Specialist should be able to assist the Manager with other duties, such as directing flow of participants through the exam, managing supply ordering, and running the daily operations of the Exam Center when Manager is away.
Schedule
Typically, Monday-Friday, 7:30am-3:30pm but varies slightly depending on daily schedule.
Occasional Saturdays required (3-4 in Spring and 3-4 in Fall).
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Must have a friendly affect and be comfortable working with study participants
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Must be extremely reliable and flexible
- Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
- Excellent trouble shooting / problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Strong ability to prioritize tasks with excellent time management skills
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 1-3 years’ full-time work experience
- Familiarity with medical terminology is a plus but not required
- Fluency in Spanish is a plus
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand/walk for much of the day
- Must be able to lift and carry medical equipment weighing roughly 15 pounds
- Reliable transportation is necessary to conduct offsite visits
