Position is a Registered Nurse. Position provides professional nursing care/treatment to patients in accordance with medical protocols, written policies and procedures and the NC Board of Nursing scope of practice. Responsibilities include conducting sick call/assessment, assisting the physician, carrying out orders, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care. Position responds to medical emergencies, monitors for communicable diseases, counsels for compliance with diet, medications and treatment, responds to inquiries, medical appointments, orders medications and supplies, and additional nursing care duties, as required. Position requires oversight of LPN and CNA I/II staff as designated by management. Individuals may be required to work any shift, weekend or holiday, with limited supervision, as assigned.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

The salary grade for this position is MH15. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

About the NC Dept. of Adult Correction (DAC):
The Department of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare and facility operations staff, as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission and Rehabilitation & Reentry.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL the following:
  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina.
  • If you possess a single state RN license from a state other than NC, you must apply and receive at minimum a "temporary license" to practice in NC prior to hire date.
