1st shift Monday-Friday 8am-5pm Summer Hours are Monday-Thursday 8am-6pm May 22, 2023-Septmeber 3rd, 2023

Wage: $ 20.67 an hour

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of Purchasing Manager, coordinate activities involved with procuring goods and services such as raw materials, equipment, tools, parts, supplies, and advertising.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review requisitions.
  • Confer with vendors to obtain product or service information such as price, availability, and delivery schedule.
  • Select products for purchase by testing, observing, or examining items.
  • Estimate value according to knowledge of market price and conducts cost and value analysis.
  • Determine method of procurement such as direct purchase or bid.
  • Prepare purchase orders or bid requests.
  • Review bid proposals and negotiate contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority.
  • Maintain procurement records such as items or services purchased costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories.
  • Discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, users, vendors, and others to determine problem source and take corrective action.
  • Assist in establishing certified vendors.
  • Coordinate with Accounts Payable to insure proper payment of invoices.
  • Expedite delivery of goods to users.
  • Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times. Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.

Contacts/Purpose of Contacts:

Contact with vendors, purchasing staff, warehouse staff, associates and management in all business units of the tribe.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, and requirements.
  • Knowledge of purchasing policies, practices, and cost analysis techniques.
  • Knowledge of contract law to assess contract compliance and product/service quality.
  • Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic arithmetic.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including Windows programs.
  • Skill in preparing, reviewing and analyzing operational and financial reports.
  • Ability to lead and guide the work of others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to analyze situations and adopt appropriate courses of action.
  • Ability to make solid decisions and exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to be persuasive and tactful in controversial situations.
  • Ability to resolve customer complaints and concerns.


Physical Demands:

  • Frequent use of hands, wrists, fingers associated with computer equipment.
  • Required to sit for extended periods of time, use arms and hands.
  • Frequently walk, stand, bend, crouch, and crawl.
  • Normal visual acuity, ability to talk and hear.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.


Work Environment:

  • Normal office environment.
  • Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
  • Travel may be required.


Job Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Four years experience in purchasing in large corporate environment.
  • An equivalent combination of education and directly related experience may be considered.
  • Experience and strong negotiation skills and the experience with value analysis.
  • Must be able to pass background check to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.


Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Business Administration or related field.


License, Certification, or Special Requirements:

  • Native American preference shall apply to all positions.
