Summary

The Power Plant Technician A operates, monitors, maintains plant equipment to ensure reliable, safe and efficient operation of the plant systems. This is a full-time hourly position located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This position requires Kendall UWUA Local 369 Union membership and reports to the Operations Manager.

Responsibilities

1. Operates, monitors, and responds to normal and abnormal operating conditions of power plant equipment and auxiliaries.

2. Takes readings and maintains records and logs.

3. Records equipment problems on work notifications/requests and documents maintenance actions taken.

4. Perform water chemistry analysis and make feeds and adjustments to maintain proper chemical control. Work with water treatment vendor to properly monitor overall chemistry program.

5. Operate and regenerate water treatment equipment.

6. Assists in developing operating procedures.

7. Reads meters, gauges, or automatic devices to record data such as temperature of equipment, vibration, of equipment, hours of operation, pressure, and fluid levels to verify operating conditions.

8. Visually inspects and listens to equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment, or lubrication.

9. Uses facility operating procedures to operate facility equipment and ensure equipment is operated within acceptable parameters.

10. Opens and closes valves as required for proper system operation and mechanical isolation.

11. Opens and closes circuit breakers up to 480 volts as required for proper system operation and electrical isolation.

12. Performs all duties defined in Safety policies and procedures as assigned, not limited to but including lock- out/ tag out of equipment including taking responsibility as Authorized Employee (This includes independent verification).

13. Maintain assigned cleaning station

14. Understands and complies with all regulatory procedures and facility safety programs. Follow all plant environmental permits.

15. Assists other job classifications as assigned when combined cycle major equipment and boilers are not in operation.

16. This position works a rotating shift schedule.

Qualifications and Experience

1. High School Diploma or GED required.

2. Holds and maintains a Massachusetts Third Class Engineers License

3. Has 5 years’ experience operating gas turbines, high pressure boilers, steam turbines, and Heat Recovery Steam Generators.

4. Demonstrates knowledge of the relationship between plant operations and energy markets.

5. Must possess basic computer literacy.

6. Ability to read and interpret P& ID’s

7. Have a good safety record.

Working Conditions

Ability to perform moderately heavy physical work outdoors/indoors in all seasons and at times for extended periods.
