Overview:

The Chemistry Department at the University of Tennessee currently has a postdoctoral research associate position available for a Chemist with specific expertise in the chemistry of functional dyes and in particular synthesis and characterization of BODIPYs, aza-BODIPYs, and their analogues.

Major duties/Responsibilities:

• Preparation and characterization (spectroscopic, electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical) of new functional dyes. Expertise in multi-step organic synthesis.

• When needed, training and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students.

• Responsible for presenting and reporting research results and publishing scientific results in peer reviewed journals in a timely manner.

• Ensure compliance with environment, safety, health and quality program requirements.

• Maintain strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of values and ethics.

Qualifications required:

• A PhD (or equivalent) in Chemistry or a closely related field completed within the last 7 years.

• An excellent track of record of productive and creative research demonstrated by publications in peer reviewed journals.

• A strong background in chemistry of functional dyes and multi-step organic synthesis.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills along with excellent interpersonal skills.

• Motivated and safety conscious.

• Must be able to work independently and collaboratively.

• Ability to set priorities, multi-task and adapt to ever changing needs with the proven ability to function well in a fast-paced environment.
