Do it here.
What you’ll be doing...

You will facilitate collaboration sessions and ensure consistency and alignment across Enterprise from both a technical and process perspective. You will be responsible for working on efforts linked to initiatives around project viability and enterprise readiness, as well as best practices of open source use, especially in the context of build tools. You will focus on engineering innovative, strategic, and long-term solutions that align with (and often expand) Verizon enterprise architecture standards. You will work collaboratively with all stakeholders to establish and maintain technical leadership within the enterprise technology teams.
You will work closely with software development teams across Verizon on implementing policies and establishing best practices for the use of open source software components in all stages of the development lifecycle. This position requires the candidate to work closely with our IT and Business partners to evaluate the viability of open source components, to implement a secure software supply chain, and to integrate our efforts with existing industry wide efforts like OpenSSF.
Additionally, you will mentor and coach engineers at all levels across the organization to better understand the existing industry standard processes and policies around open source use, upgradability, and security as well as effective strategies to avoid unmaintainable technical debt.

- Acting as a thought leader in industry wide efforts around open source component viability and enterprise readiness for open source components and build artifacts.
- Maintaining and promoting best practices around use of and contribution to third party open source projects.
- Identifying key components and processes to improve the overall maintainability and security of the Verizon open source supply chain.
- Performing code review and giving constructive feedback to other developers.
- Providing mentorship and coaching in order to establish best practices for component maintainability and upgradability.
- Working as part of a broader effort to establish and review viability criteria for open source components (based on the OpenSSF framework, among others).
- Participating in public presentations in major open source events with over 400 attendees.
- Working with the OSPO leadership on the overall open source related strategies.
Where you’ll be working…
In this remote role, you’ll work from home with occasional in-person trainings and meetings.
What we’re looking for...
You’ll need to have:
- Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
- Six or more years of relevant work experience.
- Experience in software development practices in one or more programming languages.
- Experience in Python, RPM development, or other related technologies.
- Experience in working on use of open source components in enterprise environments.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:

- Experience in engaging with and contributing to open source projects.
- Experience in leading open source projects.
- Active engagement with OpenSSF or other, similar open source efforts.
- Experience in open source build systems, SBOM generation, and reproducible builds.
- Experience in articulating the business drives and architectural approach/trade-offs during discussions for solution.
- Experience in facilitating group meetings/discussions.
If Verizon and this role sound like a fit for you, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every “even better” qualification listed above.
