SUMMARY

The Occupational Therapist, OTR/L, CHT provides therapy treatments in a professional, efficient and therapeutic manner. Use many different types of equipment and procedures. Utilize soft tissue mobilization, static/dynamic splinting, manual therapy, therapeutic exercise and modalities. The Occupational Therapist, OTR/L, CHT may be required to do some office work, answering telephone, taking messages. Providing education, training and supervision of Therapy Aides is also required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

Includes but not limited to the following:

• Meets the patients’ goals and needs and provides quality care by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results; determining therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians or by prescription.
• Helps patients accomplish treatment plans and goals. Implement therapeutic devices by administering exercises; instructing, encouraging, and assisting patients in performing physical activities and daily-living activities.
• Administers Occupational Therapy treatments by providing manual therapy techniques; applying physical agents; utilizing moist packs, ultraviolet and infrared lamps, and ultrasound machines.
• Evaluates effects of therapy treatments and fit of prosthetic and orthotic devices by observing, noting, and evaluating patients’ progress; recommending adjustments and modifications.
• Completes discharge planning by consulting with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other health care workers; contributing to patient care conferences.
• Assures continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by designing home exercise programs; instructing patients, families, and caregivers in home exercise programs; recommending and/or providing assistive equipment; recommending outpatient or home health follow-up programs.
• Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records in compliance with Medicare guidelines.
• Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions and informing management when repairs are needed
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
• Develops occupational therapy staff by providing information; developing and conducting in-service training programs
• Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
• Maintains a good working relationship within the department, other departments and referring providers
• Correctly completes paperwork in a timely manner and documents the progress of treatment.
• Seeks supervision and consultation with management when needed.
• Attend staff meetings in a positive and constructive manner.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Current California License.
• Maintain continuing educated credits required by California PT Board/California OT Board.
• Certified Hand Therapist
• Current CPR certification.
