The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking a Multimedia Specialist to join our Communications Bureau at our Headquarters in Boise. This position will be responsible for capturing digital video, audio, and photography assets and editing that content into final products that can be used to further the department’s mission and objectives.

The successful candidate will combine their knowledge of shooting and editing digital content, with project management skills to plan, execute and deliver projects from start to finish. This person must be able to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, contractors, and talent; and will be responsible for assigning the right team of partners to complete projects. They must be a storyteller capable of creating compelling content that resonates with the audience and accurately shares needed information for distribution on social media, via email, on the Idaho Fish and Game website or other platforms. This role requires a high degree of organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently, utilize best practices in digital asset management and storage, track budgets, and maintain equipment.

Example of Duties

Responsibilities:


  • Video Content Creation and Management:
    • Producer – Manages the video needs of the organization. Coordinates with immediate supervisor, bureaus, section managers and regional communications managers to identify video needs and develop a plan for execution. Duties may include storyboarding, script writing, organizing talent and other production needs.
    • Storytelling – Utilizes communication and marketing best practices to create compelling stories in final products.
    • Videographer –Sets up and operates cameras, audio, lighting, props, and other equipment on set or on location.
    • Editor – Edits nonlinear video and audio to create final product, including adding graphics, closed captioning, and special effects to footage.
    • Project manager – Manages videos contracted to outside video production firms, when applicable.
  • Training:
    • Provide direct training to select department staff to assist in capturing photo and video assets.
  • Photography:
    • Assist in capturing and editing photo assets on set and on location.
  • Content Management:
    • Manage the storage, distribution, and archiving organization of all photo, video and audio assets.
    • Manage YouTube channel organization and other video publishing platforms as needed.
  • Administrative:
    • Manage timelines, budget, licensing agreements, and contracts related to video and photo production.
    • Purchase, maintain, and manage inventory of equipment.
    • Manage contractors.
    • Follow trends in content creation, video, and social media.
    • Participate in projects by preparing media and digital content for communications campaigns.
    • Develop and recommend or implement program policies and procedures.
    • Prepare or assist in the preparation of administrative reports, studies, and specialized projects.
  • Other duties as assigned

Supplemental Information

Desirable Qualification: (This qualification is not required, however if you have related experience, it may increase your rating.)


  • Experience using modern video, audio, and photography equipment to produce, shoot, edit, and publish high-quality videos and photos that deliver engaging content.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in broadcasting, film, or communications with three to five years of experience as a freelancer or corporate videographer promoting organizations, products, programs, or services. They thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment, multitasks well, and can manage projects creatively with a keen eye for detail. Successful candidates will have strong written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with creative teams, internal and external stakeholders, and production team. With or without reasonable accommodations, they will have the physical ability to hold recording equipment for long periods, and work in remote locations on varied terrain. They are knowledgeable in post-production techniques and understand software for planning, editing, and storing video content. Lastly, the ideal candidate will be purpose-driven with a passion for wildlife conservation and management; and have familiarity with outdoor recreation, hunting, fishing, and the people who participate in those activities.
