Position Summary

Franciscan Children’s has a full-time social worker position open for our two inpatient medical/rehabilitative units. Our medical social workers work as part of a dynamic and enthusiastic multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, rehabilitation therapists, child life specialist, and psychologists. The social work role is essential for maximizing the quality of care for many patients with complex medical, developmental, and social needs. Social workers are actively involved in all parts of the patient’s care by both connecting patient’s to much needed community resources and by provided direct parent therapeutic supports. Additionally, our social work team functions as the primary liaison to DCF and the department of public health.

Competitive candidates will be independently licensed with a LICSW. The ability to supervise other social workers and/or social work interns is also desired but not mandatory. Experiences working with families with complex needs is necessary and experience in medical settings is preferred. Most importantly, candidates must be committed the hospital mission to service excellence, participation in quality improvement planning, team, and staff meetings are expected.

Requirements

  • MSW in clinical social work is required
  • Licensure at the independent level (LICSW) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts or license eligible
  • Three to five years of experience as a licensed clinician preferred; however, newly licensed clinician will be considered
  • Experience with children and families dealing with complex medical issues (preferably at least one year of which was in a hospital or rehabilitation setting)
  • Prior experience with supervising staff and/or social work interns is preferred

Competencies

  • Clinical competencies in the delivery of services to children in families, with particular reference to the impact of acute and chronic illness on patients/families.
  • An understanding of work in a health care setting as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge and skills in examining cultural factors at work with individuals and families in medical settings.
  • Understanding of the health care issues as they relate to cultural diversity and disenfranchised populations.
  • Knowledge of specialized community resources for individuals with complex physical, medical, and developmental needs and their families.
  • Crisis management skills and effective abilities to provided supportive care within a system

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $35.60 - $50.00 per hour
