Position Title: Metallurgy Lab Technician

Job Description:

Under the direction of the Metallurgist and/or Quality Engineer, the Metallurgy Lab Technician supports heat treating processes with quality control tests per the control plan.

Functions

• Performs all job functions in such a manner that Company quality objectives and standards are met in order to ensure customer satisfaction
• Monitor heat treating process data
• Collect heat treat samples as necessary
• Prepare and inspect heat treat samples per control plan
• Record process data and inspection results in checksheets
• Record heat treat samples as scrap
• Perform daily checks on the Magnaflux tester
• Conduct Magnaflux testing on heat treat samples
• Maintain inventory of lab supplies
• Verify calibration of hardness testers daily
• Maintain lab equipment in working order, such as cleaning the saws and changing the blades
• Maintain cleanliness of the lab, such as sweeping the floor and disposing of scrap
• Store heat treat cut-up and mounted samples as required
• Advise Metallurgist and/or Quality Engineer of any non-conforming conditions or adverse trends
• Must be able to work all shifts when necessary.
• Performs other associated responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to work with little or no supervision, given proper instructions
• Strong organizational skills
• Demonstrated use of basic computer skills
• Ability to work daily and weekly overtime
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Demonstrated ability to operate and maintain machinery
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as equipment manuals, control plans, etc.
• Ability to learn and understand machine operations and sequences
• Demonstrated ability to speak and communicate effectively
• Demonstrated ability to use a wide variety of tools, equipment and measuring instruments
• Ability to read a minimum of 6 pt font held at arm’s length
• Demonstrated ability to add and subtract negative and positive integers
• Demonstrated ability to understand and use both English and metric units of measurement
• Minimum age 18 years

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.50 - $20.50 per hour
