Position Summary: Assumes responsibility for participating in the delivery of care for patients under the direct supervision of the Nurse. Functions as a member of the health care team that includes providers and nurse practitioners. Exhibits excellent professional customer service when dealing with patients, visitors, providers and co-workers.

Follows role assignments that are in alignment with the Patient Centered Medical Home Standards, and participate in all Patient Centered Medical Home efforts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Check-in patients, takes vital signs (obtaining weight & height), document chief complaint (including health histories), completing consents and assists patients in completing histories form and other forms/ consents.
  • Assists in keeping patient demographic and other related information updated (responsible provider, email and phone numbers.
  • Assists providers during physical examinations that includes but not limited to preparing pap smears and GC cultures for transport.
  • Collects specimens for simple laboratory procedures (i.e. pregnancy tests, dipstick, etc.). Collects blood specimens for outside laboratory analysis.
  • Participates in public awareness and health fair activities in the community.
  • Stocks and maintains exam rooms and other work areas.
  • Maintains equipment in good working order.
  • Adheres to nursing and NNHSC policies and procedures.
  • Assists in exiting patients/clients.
  • Assists with health awareness patient teaching under supervision.
  • Maintains patient and health center confidentiality.
  • Adheres to universal pre-cautions and infectious control policy/procedure.
  • Keeps work environment & patient care areas neat and free of safety hazards.
  • Follows scheduled work, breaks and lunch times, arranges times around patient care activities.
  • Attends mandatory in-services & staff meetings.
  • Copies and/or faxes documents, as assigned.
  • Retrieve and disseminate documents from faxes in work area
  • Retrieves patient medical records and other patient related documents.
  • Adheres to established NNHSC policies & procedures.
  • Complete EKGs and or Visual fields as ordered by provider.
  • Adhere to HIPAA guidelines/policies.
  • Schedule client/patient appointments with providers.
  • Responds to patients, questions, concerns or requests via phone or electronically in a timely manner.

Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Encourage patients/client to complete patient satisfaction surveys.
  • Assists patients in registered for the patient portal.
  • Maintains and promotes excellent customer relations standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirement: No lifting more than 5 to 10 lbs; sitting 50%, standing/walking 50%

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program

Required Licensure and/or Certification: Registered Medical Assistant Certificate and CPR

Minimum Experience: One year of experience preferred.

Supervision:

Other Requirements: Saturday hours, evening hours and/or may be required to work at a different site.
