Job Overview
The Lock Shop Foreperson supervises the full range of Lock Shop activities required to install, replace, repair, open, maintain, and inspect a wide variety of mechanical and computerized locks; and leads Lock Shop team members in a positive manner for support for more than 12,000 locks at the Georgetown University Main Campus and Medical Center.
Work Interactions
Reporting to the Lock Shop Supervisor, the Locksmith Foreperson provides oversight and direction of lock shop staff mechanics and interacts with Georgetown University’s faculty, staff, and students on a regular basis.
Leadership
  • Lead, direct, motivate, inspire, and encourage Lock Shop staff their work
  • Work with supervisor(s) to plan and coordinate job assignments to ensure that scheduled preventive maintenance requirements are met
  • Work with supervisor to schedule routine Lock Shop operations, exercise discretion, and make deviations from schedules as needed
  • Plan and organize Locksmiths to inspect, adjust, clean, and calibrate lock systems and equipment to ensure it’s in satisfactory working order
  • Train new Lock Shop staff members
Repairs, Modifications, and Maintenance
  • Perform simple to complex repairs, calibrations and modifications of all types of lock and door access equipment and systems
  • Perform rebuild, installation and upgrade of locks and exit devices. Perform routine tasks when required
  • Perform scheduled and/or routine preventive maintenance on a variety of door and lock equipment/systems
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose causes of lock equipment failures, and applies corrective actions
  • Resolve lock equipment breakdowns in efforts to minimize downtime
Customer Relations
  • Promote, build, and maintain good University customer relations and assists with contract management
  • Receive, check and interpret lock and key system orders, blueprints, and cut sheets
  • Orders parts, tools and supplies from various vendors, verifies orders on arrival, prepares estimates/cost sheets for projects and assists with budget planning
Operational Excellence
  • Follow up on all jobs to completion and ensure that operations are performed in the most efficient manner
  • Perform oversite and planning of electronic lock systems such as Switch Tech and other key related software
  • Maintain knowledge of industry changes and new developments in products and technology
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalency
  • Thorough knowledge of the locksmith trade (10+ years), including at least 5 years of documented work experience of leading a team of trade personnel
  • Valid driver’s license
Preferred qualification
Associate’s degree in related electrical, mechanical, industrial field or commensurate experience in the locksmith trade
