Position and Salary
The Attorney General’s Office is recruiting for a permanent full time Legal Office Assistant in the Regional Services Division. This position is located in Port Angeles, Washington, and is represented by the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE).
Legal Office Assistant Salary Range 34: $33,924 - $44,808
The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the preferred candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
If a position is designated as requiring dual language skills, incumbents will also receive a 5% Dual Language Requirement Pay stipend.

Division Information
The seven offices of the Regional Services Division are the "face of the AGO" in communities across the state. These offices provide a wide variety of legal services for a number of different client agencies, such as the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF), Department of Labor and Industries (L&I), Employment Security Department and Department of Licensing.
The offices also represent education institutions, including Western Washington University, as well as local community and technical colleges: Peninsula, Whatcom, Bellingham Technical, Skagit Valley, Everett, Edmonds, Clark, Lower Columbia, Walla Walla, Columbia Basin, Yakima Valley and Wenatchee Valley. The Regional Services Division also represents and advises the Center for Childhood Deafness and Hearing Loss, the School for the Blind, and several Educational Service Districts. The professional staff members and AAGs in Regional Services operate in a highly independent environment (we are our own "General Services") while also working as an integrated part of the AGO.
This position performs general clerical work and basic technical legal assignments under the supervision of the Legal Administrative Manager. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Positively and professionally greets and provides assistance to client agency staff, court personnel, and the public by telephone and in person;
- Uses Independent judgment to extract and verify case data for accurate and timely docketing of legal documents and critical court dates in agency unique case management system;
- Performs accurate and timely data entry into pre-designated legal databases, such as the Case Management System (CMS);
- Receives service of legal documents and immediately routes to the appropriate party; reviews documents for court mandated due dates, records, or applications for compliance with rules;
- Opens and closes case files in legal database; prepares juvenile litigation orders for new dependency matters and maintains case files according to office procedures.
- Acts as agency liaison with court clerk's office; identifies, locates, and prints court docket for cases;
- Pulls court orders weekly from Chelan, Douglas, Okanogan and Grant county courts online systems; saves orders in electronic case file folders;
- Prepares responses to notice of appearance; and other miscellaneous legal pleadings upon request and under direction of supervisor; prepares Indian Child Welfare Act notices; downloads discovery from client agency from Secure File Transfer system.
- Archives case files in accordance with legal requirements for protecting confidential information;
- Performs delivery/messenger services such as serving and filing legal documents and obtains signatures in order to meet critical deadlines;
- Photocopies and scans documents, ensuring exact duplication of originals, and distributes conformed copies of orders to opposing counsel and other interested parties;
- Prepares and processes vendor expense vouchers weekly and expert agreements in conformance with agency-established coding system;
- Maintains division’s multi-function devises ensuring they are filled with paper and toner, troubleshoots problems with the machines and ensure proper maintenance.
- Schedules state vehicles on reservation calendars;
- Sets conference room reservations;
- Maintains office supply inventory and prepares order forms as needed;
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Option 1: High School diploma or equivalent and two years of clerical experience including a minimum of six months of experience in a legal office environment.
Option 2: One year of legal office experience.
Option 3: A combination of two years of college education and/or relevant experience.
Option 4: A two-year degree in Legal Secretary Studies, Paralegal studies or related field of study.
